Location
Peña de Francia is one of the highest peaks in the Las Batuecas Natural Park in Salamanca. This 1,727-meter-high mountain offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding area and a sanctuary with a fascinating history.
Best time to do the route
The best time of year is in autumn or spring, as these are times when nature is at its most incredible and offers all its power.
Hiking route to the summit of Peña de Francia
There are several routes to the summit, but we recommend the hiking trail that connects Monsagro with La Peña. You'll enjoy the scenery and diverse wildlife, such as mountain goats and golden eagles, and the views from the sanctuary at the top are incredible.
Complete the Route
At the end of the route you can enjoy a good meal and a visit to the picturesque village of La Alberca, where you can see the traces of the Sephardic past, and try its local products such as mountain honey or almond and honey nougat.
Interesting facts about Peña de Francia
The sanctuary at the summit houses the Black Virgin, patron saint of the province of Salamanca. A guesthouse and several viewpoints complete the complex.
